I have always been a fan of smoothies. There’s just something so refreshing about drinking frozen blended fruit!
However, I recently started to hear people talking about “GreenSmoothies”. It didn’t sound tasty, and almost sounded downright yucky!
These very people were saying that they were actually putting spinach in their smoothies!!
Now I know veggies are essential and spinach has been called asuperfood, but honestly… not in my smoothie! Curiosity got the best ofme though, and I now must say I’m hooked.
When experimenting with a “recipe” I had an amazing discovery… I couldn’t taste the spinach!
So why wouldn’t I add this tremendously healthy green into mysmoothie? Oh, and as long as you add some pretty colored fruit, itwon’t turn out green either!

Recipe ~ Green Smoothies!
1 handful spinach
2 cups orange juice
2 cups milk
1 banana
8 – 10 strawberries (I use frozen)
1/2 cup blueberries (I use frozen)
8 oz. yogurt (I prefer boysenberry or blackberry)
1 dash of sugar
*Blend spinach, orange juice and milk together first. I use the liquify option on my blender.
*Once the spinach has blended well, add all other ingredients and blend.
*If using fresh fruit, you can add in some ice cubes for more of a frozen consistency.
*Enjoy!
Thisis a great way to pack some fruit & veggie servings into your day.You may also find another bonus is a little boost of energy! Optionaladd-ins could include ground flax, protein powder, unflavored fiberpowder, etc.

Sarahgave me the heads up about a great deal on Mission tortillas going atSafeway this week. Use the in-ad coupon to get them at the $0.99 price.AND, there is a limit of 10 on this item. Then, stack with the $0.75/1coupon from the 1/10 SmartSource and you've got tortillas for $0.24each! You can find the ad here.
Asmost of you know, these "Super Coupons" require a minimum purchase of$10 to use. Sarah found some GREAT clarification on these - right onthe Safeway website! Check it out:
"Youwill reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchasesbefore your Club Card discount is applied. This total will include thecoupon item's regular price, not the discounted price. For example, theregular retail price of a box of Cheerios (before coupon and beforeClub Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required inorder to use the Cheerios coupon."
Let'sbreak this down. According to the Mission in-ad coupon, the pricebefore discount (but after Club Card) would be $1.99 each. I'm not sureof the price before any discounts, but let's suppose it's $2.50. Thispolicy tells me that I could buy 4 tortillas and qualify to use thecoupon, because my total before any discount would be $10. Does thatmake sense?
Giventhis my question is: "why have a minimum purchase amount in the firstplace?" It seems like a way to trick customers into spending more thanthey need. The idea!

Sarahtells me that she usually has to show cashiers this policy in order tohave them process the coupons correctly. So I DO recommend you print this out for your Safeway trips. Thanks for pointing this out, Sarah!

I hope that movingfrom one week to one month serves to better spread the awareness of anissue that faces too many of our young people today.Mary Kay Inc. and the Mary Kay Foundation have a long-standingcommitment to bring an end to domestic violence, and we became activein 2009 in the teen dating violence area. We've partnered with thenon-profit group Break the Cycle to sponsor an interactive DVD called Ending Violence that can be easily used by school systems throughout our nation. Ending Violence helpsto teach middle and high school students about healthy relationshipsand dating violence. Currently, one in three teens will experienceabuse in a dating relationship and one in four eighth and ninth gradestudents report being victims of dating violence. We hope that byraising awareness in young people we can reduce or eradicate thatnumber.While the creation of the Ending Violence program wasa great start, it will only work if we get it in front of as manymiddle and high school students as possible. Found this post on Utah Deal Diva's website and I thought it was worth sharing. We haven't personally experienced job loss but we did just experience a cut in pay. So this post hit home, as we try to continue to cut back, clip more coupons, save, Tithe and do some serious budgeting. If you haven't already read The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey or taken the Financial Peace course by Dave, I would recommend doing so! Give yourself peace of mind and "change your family tree" as Dave says!

"As many of you know, I startedthis blog when my husband was unemployed. It was more an outlet for me;something different to focus on that took my mind off things. I wrotethis article describing our experience and how we "survived" beingunemployed." ~Jessica

Likemillions of other Americans, I hadn’t anticipated my husband suddenlybeing out of work. We’d always lived within our means and had littledebt, but we didn’t have much in savings either. We were terrified atwhat our future possibly held. How were we going to pay our bills?Would we lose our house?

Those were the thoughts running throughmy head as the reality of our situation began to sink in. I am a stayat home mom for our three young children; my husband was the solebreadwinner and then suddenly he was without a job. How were we goingto make it with no income?! I was overwhelmed with our sudden change of circumstances. Thankfully, my husband and I quickly resolved that we would not let this situation break us.We had worked too hard to let this ailing economy make victims out ofus. We made a plan and prayed hard that God would help us. Little didwe know how abundantly our prayers would be answered.

Here weare three months later and I’m happy to report my husband just starteda new job! The truly amazing thing is, due to the changes we quicklymade in our lives, not only did we not have to touch our savings, butwe added to it! No, this isn’t some “get rich quick” gimmick- it’s atrue story of how my family survived being unemployed and living on apart-time retail income.

Lessons I Learned from Being Unemployed

Being unemployed is hard work. My husband and I are both hard workers, but never before have we worked so hard to stay right where we were at.Our only goal at the time was to pay our bills and stay in our home.Within 2 days of being out of work my husband secured a part-time jobworking retail. When he wasn’t working there, he was spending hours andhours every day searching for a new job. I helped him search before thekids woke up and after they went down for naps. We worked withrecruiting firms and friends to find new employment. In one word Iwould describe it all as exhausting.

The companies you pay your bills to are more willing to help if you ask.Within a week of being unemployed, I called all of the companies ourbills were through, telling them our situation and asking what theycould do. I was so grateful to find that every company I called wasmore than willing to help us. We switched phone plans, downgraded ourcable and cancelled services. Suddenly our meager income was stretchinga lot farther.

I didn’t miss luxuries nearly as much as I thought I would.By luxuries I mean eating out once a week, buying a new pair of shoes,or taking the kids to the zoo. Sure, it would have been nice to dothose things occasionally, but right after my husband lost his job, wedeclared a spending halt. We bought nothing unless it was absolutelynecessary, and even then, we most often bought second hand. Were-discovered the value of family time and truly enjoyed spending ittogether. We made meals from scratch and had a new-found appreciationfor the items we already had. Our lives became very simple and I wassurprised at how much I enjoyed it.

Meal planning and cooking from scratch saves a lot of money.This is something I’d known for a while, but I gained a huge testimonyof it while unemployed. Being as I’d used coupons for some time; we hadbuilt up a nice food storage. Since eating out wasn’t an option, Ifound planning for our meals was critical. I regularly assessed theitems in our pantry and planned meals accordingly. We made our ownbread and found joy in creating yummy treats ourselves. I also got verycreative in seeing how far some food items could stretch. A member ofour church dropped off a whole ham one night and I stayed up lateslicing and packaging it so as to use the entire thing. I even boiledthe ham bone in soup! We were able to feed our family over 7 meals withthat one ham!

Using less of everything really didn’t affect our way of life. And when I say everything, I mean everything!One of the areas we strived to use less was in gas & electricity.We wore sweatshirts instead of adjusting the heater and used the warmthof the oven to heat the house after we baked something. We were mindfulof even the little things from the length of showers we took to howmuch shampoo we used. We turned our water heater down and adjusted ourdishwasher to the lowest settings. As a result of changing our actionswe didn’t freeze, our clothes and dishes were still clean (as were we!)and we ended up shaving 25% off our utility bills!

We didn’t really need many of the items we already had.So I sold them. Well, a lot of them at least. I regularly walked aroundthe house assessing what our family could live without and I sold theitems online. I sold books, clothes, and electronics. Anything wedidn’t need that I thought might have value was suddenly on the market!My husband scoured the garage and cashed in a load of scrap metal. I’dbeen couponing for years and had quite a supply, so I assembled couponsand sold them in groups. We spent $20 to cosmetically fix up an old carwe’d had for years and hung the “For Sale” sign on it, unsure if wecould even sell it in this economy. We sold it for our full askingprice a month later. The earnings were quickly transferred to oursavings. Each time I sold something I’d calculate what bills that itemcould pay for or how long it would enable us to live in our house. Tensof dollars turned to hundreds, and hundreds turned to thousands. It wasincredible and we felt so blessed.

Our trials give others the opportunity to serve.As difficult as it might be to be on the receiving end, it’s necessaryat different times in our lives. We saw the Lord’s hand in so manysmall acts of service given to us by neighbors and friends. Peoplewrote us kind letters with thoughts of encouragement. Others sent smallamounts of money anonymously. It was all very much appreciated and weare grateful for the services rendered.

We grew accustomed tothis new way of life. After a few months, my husband found a new job. Ido think it will take a while for my type-A personality to recover fromthe stress and uncertainty that was so prevalent during those fewmonths. I’m grateful for the outcome though and understand many othersare in situations far worse than ours. If I can pass on one piece ofadvice for others who find themselves suddenly unemployed it’s this: even in this economy, you have more influence on your personal & financial situations than you think. And never forget the power of prayer!

I needed bread and sliced cheese but I did put together 1 buy 10 get $5 deal and then I found enough items to put together another deal! I think I did really well considering I bought what we will eat and enjoy instead of just looking completely at what the store would pay me to take home(like Jill Cataldo). Although I do shop that way most of the time, today was a case in which I wanted to walk out with the cheapest of the products that I needed and enjoy! So here is how I did:

I use to factor them in but now I save so much anyways that I like seeing them and being surprised about them(like the extra Axe Kroger ecoupon that worked on this transaction!!)

Oh and also check your Krogers cart clearance! Here are a few deals I found(but decided to pass up on, but you may want)-

Cummulative Spending- $881.83 what I actually spent!!!! WOW! I could have never bought as much food, etc. that my family can use if I hadn't couponed!! Not to bad of an income!!!!!

Brighten a Front Door
Stuck with a dull entry? With only one quart of primer, one quart of an oil-based paint(try a warm color, like deep red), and a bottle of brass polish for the door knob, the entrance to your home will look vibrant and bright.
For an accent, fill a tall rattan planter with a fresh rosemary plant surrounded with English ivy. The herb will give off a great fragrance while adding greenery to your area.
Tips:
* Do not paint the door the same color as the surrounding trim. Choose a contrasting, bright accent color.
* Apply three coats of paint for best color and durability.
* The planter should be at least two feet high and its color should not match the door.

Give Your Bedroom a New Personality
Take advantage of January white sales. New sheets and pillowcases, a matching bed skirt to add color and hide the ugly metal bed frame, and throw pillows will give your bed a bright and cheerful new look. The wall behind the bed can also e dressed up with two king-size sheets and a wooden drapery pole. Just sew a pocket at the top and attach to the ceiling, and push a simple curtain rod through the bottom to attach at the baseboard behind the bed. The result is an easy and unexpected "head-board" at a fraction of the cost.
Tips:
* Solid colors or striped sheets work best.
* Limit color scheme to two colors.
* Hang a mirror opposite a window to reflect light.

Bring Color to a Dark Bathroom
Create a decorator look by introducing bold colors like lime and aqua. Towels are on sale this month, so get a good supply. For accent pieces, think big: Try a two-foot vase filled with tall artificial green leaves--great for steamy rooms.
Tips:
* Increase all light-bulb wattage.
* Stack folded towels on a shelf or in a basket for a neat, plush look.
* Buy a minimum of two towels in each size. This way, you always have one in the bathroom when the other is in the wash.

I didn't do any transactions the way that Jenny at Southern Savers had type up because I didn't want to purchase some of the items she had in the deals. So I had to make up my own deal scenario to get what products I wanted, in the cheapest way! So here is what I did:

Well I noticed no ECB printed out and so did the cashier, so she went back in and manually printed a $4 ECB out for me!!! YEAH! I love my CVS girls! So that is how I made money! She did it, not me asking for it or anything!
