McNeil Consumer Healthcare Products Recall-New Post!!

I know I already made a post about this recall but I need to make another. I finally took the time to check all my McNeil Products and what did I find but...... I had just taken 2 Tylenol PM last night that were in one of the batches that were recalled!!

Product Description:
TYLENOL® EXTRA STRENGTH PM GELTAB 50CT
NDC Code #
50580-176-50
UPC #300450176509
LOT #s
AFA177 AFA326
So PLEASE check yours IMMEDIATELY! I don't know how serious of a recall this is but I don't like to take any chances especially with medicine. The McNeil site recommends that you throw away any unused product and make sure you throw it away where your kids can't get into it! Go HERE to check if any products you have need to be thrown away because they are on the list. If they aren't on the recall a pop-up message will appear after you enter the Lot # that says "This was not recalled" and if it is on the list of recalled products it will take you to the part of the page where it shows that product/info.

Kroger Steals 1/25

WOW! Kroger has some good stuff on sale if you can combine their Buy 10 participating items, Get $5 with your best coupons!!! I needed bread and sliced cheese but I did put together 1 buy 10 get $5 deal and then I found enough items to put together another deal! I think I did really well considering I bought what we will eat and enjoy instead of just looking completely at what the store would pay me to take home(like Jill Cataldo). Although I do shop that way most of the time, today was a case in which I wanted to walk out with the cheapest of the products that I needed and enjoy! So here is how I did:
Kroger Wheat Bread $1
3 Rotel $.49 each w/10 deal(FREE after my coupons)
2 Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers $.88 w/10 deal
2 Oscar Myers Chicken lunchmeat $2.99 each w/10 deal ($4.98/2 after coupon)
1 Quaker Rice Cakes $.49 w/ 10 deal( FREE + $.26 MM)
4 Propel Water $.49 each w/ 10 deal ($.98/4 w/ coupon)
1 Quaker Oatmeal $1.88($.88 after coupon)
2 Quaker Chewy Granola bars $1.49 each w/10 deal ($1.98/2 after coupon)
2 Finish Gel Pacs detergent $2.99 each w/10 deal ($.98/2 after coupon)
1 Post Raisin Bran Cereal $1.99 w/10 deal (FREE after coupon)
1 Tropicana 50 Orange Juice $2.39 w/ 10 deal ($1.39 after coupon)
1 Kroger brand sliced cheese $1.88
1 Axe Shower gel $2.50 w/ 10 deal ($.50 after coupon and Kroger e-coupon)
1 Nestle Toll House Ref. Cookie dough $2.49 w/10 deal ($.94 after coupon and cellfire e-coupon)
Total OOP: $17.33
Total Saved: $42.83!!!
Fuel Points Earned:45
Can you believe if I didn't buy any of these things on sale, or with coupons I would have paid $60.16!!! No way would I ever pay that much for these purchases again!!
NOTE: You can do more than one of the buy 10 Get $5 deals! I did 2 of them(so I bought 20 items and got $10 off!)

Side Note- I don't ever calculate the E coupons into my oop expected amount so that if they don't work I'm not thrown for a loop! I like to just keep them as a surprise extra bonus savings!! I use to factor them in but now I save so much anyways that I like seeing them and being surprised about them(like the extra Axe Kroger ecoupon that worked on this transaction!!)

Oh and also check your Krogers cart clearance! Here are a few deals I found(but decided to pass up on, but you may want)-

Gillette Fusion Razor $4.69-$2 p&g coupon=$4.69(my hubby has like 4 of these, so I will wait. plus I didn't have room for it in this weeks grocery budget!)
Bayer Quick Realeas Crystals $3.25( I think there is a coupon out there for these but it might be a printable and since I am cutting down on printables I didn't have it)
Benevia $2.50
SO CHECK THE CARTS!!! I've found some great stuff for really cheap and then pair it with a coupon :-)

Recap of my savings from Oct. 18th, 2009-Jan 2, 2010

Using the form Jill Cataldo provides on her site I kept track of my spending/savings on my groceries, over the counter meds, dog food, diapers/wipes......
Here is my breakdown:
Cummulative Value- $3,373.76 worth of product
Cummulative Savings- $2,551.74 coupons, RR and ECB's(and some sale pricing)
Cummulative Spending- $881.83 what I actually spent!!!! WOW! I could have never bought as much food, etc. that my family can use if I hadn't couponed!! Not to bad of an income!!!!!
($2,551.74 in 1 1/2 months)
So how have you done since you started couponing?
I will probably only keep track for the 1st year as it is a lot of work.

Make Over Your Kitchen

IT'S A NEW DAY
Revive your cooking routine by giving your kitchen a face-lift. No hammers or nails needed for this makeover. By organizing your pantry, refrigerator, and freezer—and stocking them with go-to essentials—dinner can be cooked and on the table quickly and easily. Here’s what to do.

Get Organized
• Throw away anything past its expiration date and consolidate multiples of items that are half used.
• Transfer dry goods to airtight containers to prolong their shelf life.
• Label shelves so that everything has its place. Knowing where to find items makes cooking more efficient. Also, mark all foods that go in the freezer with the date.

6 Ways to Shop Smart and Eat Healthy

Shop Effectively
• Always make a grocery list and divide it into sections for produce, meat, dairy, pantry, etc. This way, you won’t waste time going back and forth between aisles.
• Check out the newspaper for sales. Make notes of specials and clip coupons for any of the items on your list. Avoid buying unnecessary products just because they are a good deal.
• Choose a time to shop that’s convenient for you and during low-volume hours when the selection will be plentiful.
• Load up on dinner essentials (see box at left). These items are versatile and can be used in many different dishes.  Think bacon and eggs are only for breakfast? How’s spaghetti carbonara sound?

Money-Saving Tips for a Frugal Meal

Prep and Plan Ahead
• After you get home from the supermarket, wash and cut up all of your produce. When veggies are already diced, stir-fry is a breeze. Having salad greens already washed will also make it easier to reach for a healthy side dish.
• Divide freezer essentials like chicken and bacon into individual servings. Time for thawing will be cut significantly and you’ll use only what you need.
• Plan your meals at the beginning of the week to eliminate the question “What’s for dinner?” each night. Make some meals multitask. If you’re preparing tomato sauce for chicken parmigiana, cook extra to pair with spaghetti and frozen vegetables for pasta primavera another day.
• Make a big pot of rice at the beginning of the week and store in the fridge. It can be used as a speedy side dish. Or combine it with soy sauce, eggs, chicken, and a few other essentials for a delicious fried-rice dinner.

5 Unexpected Food Trends

Dinner Essentials

Pantry:
• Balsamic vinegar
• Breadcrumbs
• Beans, canned
• Tomatoes, canned
• Onions, garlic
• Rice
• Spaghetti

Refrigerator:
• Broth
• Dijon mustard
• Eggs
• Parmesan cheese
• Raspberry jam
• Soy sauce

Freezer:
• Bacon (freeze in individual portions)
• Chicken breasts
• Ginger root
• Mixed frozen vegetables

Spaghetti + eggs + Parmesan + bacon = Spaghetti Carbonara

Rice + onions + soy sauce + eggs + ginger root + chicken + veggies = Chicken Fried Rice

Chicken + breadcrumbs + tomatoes + Parmesan = Chicken Parmigiana

Veggies + broth + beans + onion + garlic + tomatoes + broken spaghetti = Hearty Vegetable Soup

Chicken + raspberry jam + broth + balsamic vinegar + garlic = Glazed Chicken Breasts

...And the Rest of the Home
by Pat George
Instead of an expensive remodel, these quick-and-easy changes for corners of your home will cheer up your space and make you smile.

Brighten a Front Door
Stuck with a dull entry? With only one quart of primer, one quart of an oil-based paint(try a warm color, like deep red), and a bottle of brass polish for the door knob, the entrance to your home will look vibrant and bright.
For an accent, fill a tall rattan planter with a fresh rosemary plant surrounded with English ivy. The herb will give off a great fragrance while adding greenery to your area.
Tips:
* Do not paint the door the same color as the surrounding trim. Choose a contrasting, bright accent color.
* Apply three coats of paint for best color and durability.
* The planter should be at least two feet high and its color should not match the door.

Give Your Bedroom a New Personality
Take advantage of January white sales. New sheets and pillowcases, a matching bed skirt to add color and hide the ugly metal bed frame, and throw pillows will give your bed a bright and cheerful new look. The wall behind the bed can also e dressed up with two king-size sheets and a wooden drapery pole. Just sew a pocket at the top and attach to the ceiling, and push a simple curtain rod through the bottom to attach at the baseboard behind the bed. The result is an easy and unexpected "head-board" at a fraction of the cost.
Tips:
* Solid colors or striped sheets work best.
* Limit color scheme to two colors.
* Hang a mirror opposite a window to reflect light.

Bring Color to a Dark Bathroom
Create a decorator look by introducing bold colors like lime and aqua. Towels are on sale this month, so get a good supply. For accent pieces, think big: Try a two-foot vase filled with tall artificial green leaves--great for steamy rooms.
Tips:
* Increase all light-bulb wattage.
* Stack folded towels on a shelf or in a basket for a neat, plush look.
* Buy a minimum of two towels in each size. This way, you always have one in the bathroom when the other is in the wash.

CVS Steals 1/24

I did 3 transactions today at Cvs to keep my OOP as low as possible. I didn't do any transactions the way that Jenny at Southern Savers had type up because I didn't want to purchase some of the items she had in the deals. So I had to make up my own deal scenario to get what products I wanted, in the cheapest way! So here is what I did:

transaction 1
Ivory 3pk soap $.99(free after coupon-but she used it on another trans. for me since I forgot it for this one!)
1 Gatorade $1.25
3 PepsiCo prod. 3 for $10
2 Stacy's chips $6/2(1 free with coupon, the other $2 after coupon!!)
1 Crest toothpaste $1.99 (FREE after coupon and ECB received)
1 Listerine w/bonus flossers $5.39 (should have been $2.39 after $3 disc. and then $1.39 after coupon)
1 Doritos $3.99
Total OOP: $9.34
Total Saved: $29.08
Earned $11 ECB's and used $15 on this transaction!

transaction 2:
1 Colgat Max White $2.50 ($1.50 after coupon-I just couldn't let it expire w/o use!)
1 Aussie Shampoo/Conditioner clearanced $1.17($.17 after coupon!!!)
1 Aveeno lotion clearanced $2.49 ($.49 after coupon!!)
3 Kleenex 2 clearance priced $.79 and 1 on sale $.99($2.07/3 after coupon=$.69 each)
1 Almay i-intense mascara $1.99( Free + MM $3 I'll explain at bottom of trans.)
1 Gillette Fusion Razor $8.99($2.99 after coupon and ECB earned)
1 Colgate Wisp  16ct $2.25 on sale($1.25 after coupon)
Total OOP:$2.18
Total Saved: $52.25!!! WOHOO!
Earned $8 ECB's and used the $11 ECB's earned on trans. 1 on this trans!
Ok, so how I got the Almay for FREE + $3 MM...well it rung up for $1.99 for some reason instead of $5.99 like the tag said, then you were suppouse to get an ECB for $4. Well I noticed no ECB printed out and so did the cashier, so she went back in and manually printed a $4 ECB out for me!!! YEAH! I love my CVS girls! So that is how I made money! She did it, not me asking for it or anything!

transaction 3
2 Always Pads 16ct and 26ct $7.99 for 1 and the other was FREE with coupon(both $5.99 after ECB earned)
1 Covergirl Powder 50% off clearanced $2.99($1.99 after coupon)
(I didn't buy the deal listed for Cover Girl on Southern Savers b/c this was a better price, but they only had 1 so that's all I could get in the color I think I will use)
2 Ester-C  BOGO FREE $10.79/2 ($.79/ 2 after coupons!!!)
Total OOP: $4.14
Total Saved:$38.38
Earned $2 ECB's to use next week!

Publix Steals 1/24

1 All Small and Mighty detergent $5.99
1 Clorox bleach FREE with in ad coupon wyb All Detergent
1 Iams bag of dog food $15.99(not picture- I put it in the garage where we keep it!)
USED
$28.88 worth of coupons
(sorry I know I'm changing the way I type up my deals but I'm trying to find the quickest and easiest way to show my savings)
Total OOP: $74.21
Total Saved: 47.22

My second transaction-
8 Dole Fruit cups 2 for $2.65
Total OOP: 6.77
Total Saved: 14.56($4 in coupons)
These are pictured in the picture at top just for simplicity! I did them separate so it is easier to send in for the rebate and not have to loose my original receipt for everything else I bought!

I went today instead of on Thursday  b/c I didn't want the penny deal this week. I deemed it not worth the effort for paper towels which I have tons!
So how did you do today shopping and getting your steals?

My CVS Run 1/22

I found that I had missed a deal so I had to stop by CVS!

1 The Glade Fragrance Collection Candle $3.29- $3 cvs coupon=$.29
Total OOP: $4.42
Total Saved: $12.00
Received $3 ECB for the Therma Care (so I really did pay for it but essentially got it FREE)! So I will start this next week out with $3 ECB from Therma Care and $12 from the Soy Joy=$15 ECB!
I was going to get more Soy Joys but all 3 stores near me were all sold out and since it was a special promo they didn't expect to get anymore. :-( Sad!

BOGO Sales and Coupon Issues

Collin at Hip2Save.com posted this about BOGO sales and using coupons on both items or using a BOGO coupon on a BOGO sale! I love it! So I thought I'd share it with you guys!

Before posting the CVS weekly deals I wanted to let you all know about an awesome email I received from reader Jewel.  She recently encountered issues with trying to use a buy one get one free coupon on a buy one get one free sale at CVS. She emailed CVS about her frustrations and this is what they emailed back:
Thank you for contacting CVS/pharmacy.  Your e-mail has reached the Customer Relations Department.  We appreciate the time you have taken to contact us with your inquiry.
In the case where a particular item is on sale for “buy one get one free” (BOGO), you are only allowed to use one manufacturer’s BOGO coupon.  For instance, if Revlon lipstick is on sale for BOGO, you can use one manufacturer’s BOGO coupon.  You would get both items free and pay any applicable tax.  We reserve the right to limit quantities.  If our store is running a sale for BOGO, you can use two manufacturer’s coupons for a specific dollar amount off.  For example, if Revlon lipstick is on sale at our store for BOGO, you can use two $1.00 off Revlon lipstick manufacturer coupons.
Again, thank you for contacting us.  We value your business and look forward to serving you in the future.  Have a wonderful evening!
Sincerely,
CVS/pharmacy

Victory, right?! I will be posting this with all the CVS Store guide info. I would suggest printing it off and keeping it with you every time you shop at CVS. This may come in handy if any issues should arise.
Also, I posted previously about my thoughts on using 2 coupons on a buy one get one free sale. I thought I’d go ahead and re-post what I stated for new readers.
Can you use two manufacturer (money off) coupons on a buy one get one free sale?
In my opinion YES! Now this is just my opinion and you don ‘t have to agree with it.
The reason I feel this way is because a stores sale has nothing to do with a manufacturer coupon. These are 2 separate ways to get a discount and when combined you can save quite a bit. As couponers, that’s what we do. We wait for a store sale and combine it with a manufacturers coupon to snag a sweet deal! With that being said, using 2 coupons on a buy one get one free sale (in my opinion) is the same as using coupons with any other in-store sale.
Some stores will also try to stop you from using a coupon on each item when they’re offering a buy one get one free sale. Most store coupon policies state that you CAN use a coupon on each item, so in my opinion them not allowing you to use both coupons is ridiculous. What some cashiers don’t realize is that either way you pay for the 2 products (cash or coupons) they’ll be getting the same amount back. They will be getting the cash right then or the coupons once they mail them in for redemption. Plus, by sending in the 2 coupons they will also be making an $0.08 handling fee on each one…hmmm… I think I’d rather choose the manufacturer coupons!
When a store is having a buy one get one free sale, it’s really more of a great advertsing tool. People think WOW! I am getting something free! Really, though, a buy one get one free sale is a 50% off sale, but actually not even as great. With a 50% off sale, you ONLY have to purchase one product. With a bogo sale, you’re forced to purchase two. This brings me to my next point. If two items were on a 50% sale you would be able to use a manufacturer coupon on each of them, so why is there such an issue with doing this on a buy one get one free sale?
A manufacturer coupon states one item per purchase. If you purchase two items you CAN use two coupons and you are purchasing two items in a buy one get one free sale. You are purchasing two at 50% off the retail price. No matter how they show up on your receipt, that is exactly what you’re doing.
When a manufacturer puts out a high value coupon for a certain product and lots of stores have sales for this product,  that means one thing– the manufacturer wants you to GO buy that product. Even if you snag the product for FREE- they still want you to try it. If you like it, then that means cash in their pockets, since you’ll probably be purchasing this item again, again, and again. That’s the whole point of putting coupons out there and having in-store sales and promotions— to get you to try products you never would have otherwise.
Well, I could probably make a few more points, but I think I’ll stop there. I’d love to hear all of your opinions on this topic? Do you agree or disagree?
